Thanksgiving song

“A turkey sat on a back yard fence, and he sang this sad, sad tune, ‘Thanksgiving Day is coming, gobble,
gobble, gobble, gobble, and I know I’ll be eaten soon’”.
That is a thanksgiving song I learned as a child. We don’t sing many Thanksgiving songs, do we? If I
were to ask you to name your favorite Christmas song, you could do that quickly, right? Well, what is
your favorite Thanksgiving song? That’s a little tougher, isn’t it? What…we don’t have one? I believe
we probably do, we just don’t think of them as relating to Thanksgiving because we sing them at other
times, too.
“We Gather Together”, “Give Thanks”, “Count Your Blessings”, “Come, Ye Thankful, People, Come”,
“How Great Thou Art”, even “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” and “Amazing Grace”. There are so many hymns
and contemporary songs that express our love and thankfulness to our great God and Provider. Really,
isn’t expressing our thankfulness to God for all He does for us the point of the Thanksgiving holiday?
But don’t forget that it is not only time to thank him for the physical things He provides for us. We
should also remember His grace that saves us, His words that soothe a troubled soul, His comforting
Spirit that brings peace in dark times, and His promises that give us hope. There are different degrees of
material belongings, but the spiritual aspects (the most important things) are freely and abundantly
given to all who seek Him.
“Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He's given
Jesus Christ His Son”
Say good things about your Savior and about His church.
