God’s word doesn’t need to change

I heard a young lady say that the Bible is outdated and useless because it was written by old men
thousands of years ago. The thought was that, as people change and knowledge increases, the Bible
should keep up. My question to someone who thinks that is “what knowledge do we have today that
calls for a change in the Bible?”. Yes, we know a lot more about human anatomy, DNA, and medical
issues. We can take the literal heart from a human and place it in another human. Scientists have
picked, prodded, dissected, and studied the human brain. Yet we still do not know any more about why
a person would murder, maim, and fight; or why someone will hate a fellow human because of their skin
color than we did 2000 years ago. I challenge you to read the 4 th chapter of James and tell me it isn’t
relevant today.
Many will say that we have become more “enlightened” in our thinking…more progressive. Take a look
at history and I think you’ll agree with the writer of Ecclesiastes that “What has been will be again, what
has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” Ecclesiastes 1:9 NIV. Humans
have not changed. That ‘carnal’ nature has not progressed, been enlightened, nor evolved.
The Bible teaches us the character and purpose of God, our creator. God has not changed, so His Word
does not need change. Hebrews 13:8 “…the same yesterday and today and forever”. So, the next time
someone says that the Bible is just an old book, remind them that humanity still has the same old
problems.
Say good things about your Savior and His Church on the Bluff.
P.S. I hope you have the days of our 125 th Anniversary saved (October 7 th and 8 th ). Looking to see you
then. It’s going to be an unforgettable celebration.
