Entertainment

I grew up watching westerns on television; the old “good guys in white fighting bad guys in black” kind
of westerns. I didn’t realize it at the time, but those shows gave me a very skewed and misguided view
of what the old west was really like. Remember the “shoot outs” in the middle of the streets at high
noon? They would draw and the good guy would put a bullet through the bad guy’s heart at 30 yards.
Or someone flipping a coin into the air and the gunslinger would put a bullet straight through the
middle? In reality, pistols in the west were not all that accurate and most gunfights took several shots
before someone “won”. And they were usually a lot closer to each other than depicted in the movies
and television. But my thoughts were formed by those deceptions.
Now…think about how Christians are depicted in the entertainment media; the way we are shown to
impressionable minds. We are usually hypocrites of the highest order, espousing King James Biblical
idioms while being deceptive. We are portrayed as narrow-minded, ignorant, uncaring, and hateful.
Especially hateful. When the dust settles, Christians are “put in their place” and love overcomes our
hatred. People learn just how evil Christians are. Sad, right?
Understand…people, especially younger folks, can get their “education” about Christians and
Christianity, from the media they watch. Gone are the days when “wholesome” family programs were
truly wholesome. Now, as they espouse and promote homosexualism, transgenderism, and all other
2SLGBTQ+ (I call them the alphabet) lifestyles, Christianity, and thus Christians, are seen as the enemy.
We are the “bad guys dressed in black” and that is what people see.
How can we fight that? What can we do to change that presentation of us Christians? I hate to say it,
but…not much. The entertainment industry is populated with ungodly, immoral, and perverted people
in places of power and authority. That’s a fact. We will never overcome their desire to spread their
immorality and perversion because they, themselves, seek affirmation of their darkened minds. So that
leaves us with but two courses of action.
First, just quit watching the indoctrination of their “entertainment”. I have tuned in to several shows
that sounded interesting and watchable…mostly sci-fi and comedies…only to stop watching as an
“alphabet” character is introduced or revealed. Sadly, that has been every show except one, so far. It
would certainly hit them in their pocketbook if every Christian would do that. But, alas, I believe at this
point that it isn’t just about the money to some of them. They are willing to sacrifice money on their
altar of evil to push their sickening agenda.
So that leaves us with this: live out your Christianity every way possible. Show everyone with whom you
interact the true nature of Christ-like behavior. Never be ashamed or timid when it comes to living as
the Word of God instructs you. Let people see the kindness, compassion, and love of Christ reflected
through you. Let us always “teach the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15).
Say good things about your Savior and about His church here on the Bluff.
