Conscience

Have you ever wondered why so many people hate Jews? Anti-Semitism, the hatred of Jewish people, is
on the rise again according to many experts. What have the Jews done to warrant such animosity? Have
they been a vicious people, attacking and ransacking other nations? No. They weren’t even a nation
during the Holocaust; they had no government, no national leadership, and no army. They have a
reputation of being shrewd businessmen, sure, but not crooks or thieves. The Jewish community
generally kept to themselves, celebrating their holidays and, perhaps, eating some peculiar food dishes.
Was that enough to warrant their annihilation? No…there were many groups of people that were
culturally different than their neighbors.
Why, then, have Jews been so maligned, chastised, and hated all these many years? Rabbi Benjamin
Blech, professor of Talmud at Yeshiva University, said: “Jews are hated not because they are bad but
because they persist in reminding the world of what it means to be good. Anti-Semitism is nothing less
than a visceral reaction to the cry of a guilty conscience”. Think about it: The 10 Commandments were
given to them and they became a nation with a set of moral laws given to them by the “one true God”.
They then built their government, their nation, on a those moral rules and regulations, guiding them in
their behavior toward that God as well as their fellow man.
Rabbi Blech quoted Adolph Hitler as justifying the genocide of the Jews by saying: “Conscience is a
Jewish invention like circumcision. My task is to free men from the dirty and degrading ideas of
conscience and morality.” Sounds like he, along with an unconscionably huge amount of people, hated
people who had a moral conscience imbedded by God…not human wants and desires.
Now…think about why Christianity is so reviled and hated. It’s not because we are bad people. It is
because our beliefs and desires actually highlight the goodness and grace of our Creator. Godly morals
sear the conscience of the human, secular mind and heart. Of course their complaints are purposefully
twisted and mangled to make it sound like Christians are the ones with a darkened heart. Do we want
to save babies in the womb? Well, then we must hate women. Do Christians believe marriage is
supposed to be between a man and woman? We must hate homosexuals. Do we believe there are two,
and only two, genders? We are hateful transphobes.
Do I believe there will be a Christian holocaust? The Bible certainly indicates that during the end times
there will be something like that. But I’m not saying that is imminent. However, perhaps now we can
understand the hatred of the Jews and see why it is only natural that those who hate the Jewish people
also hate the Christians of our day, too.
Say good things about your Savior and about His church.
