Comedy?

I watch a lot of comedy on Facebook (I know that surprises you) and I have started viewing some that I
immediately turned off because of the horrible language and such. Those don’t surprise me because I
figured out a long time ago that many comedians use foul language to “enhance” their humor.
However, one showed up on my feed and I began watching…I was very surprised.
This particular comedian had chosen Christianity as his subject. Now, I can put up folks poking a little
fun at some of our “churchy” habits and our traditions (like taking a casserole to the homes of the
bereaved and such). But this guy…this guy was making fun of our doctrine. He was making jokes about
people believing in the resurrection! When I heard that, I turned it off. But building a comedy routine
around the beliefs of Christianity really startled me. In fact, it was not so much a comedy routine as
much as it was a random atheist with a microphone telling everyone why he was an atheist. (There was
not any discernible laughter, by the way, so that was a little encouraging).
In this day and time you can get kicked off of social media and/or lose your job for speaking negatively
about transgenderism, homosexuality, and abortion (to name a few). But Christianity is fair game?
Really? Disparage the very name of Christ and it’s hilarious…but make a joke about a man who believes
he is a woman and good luck finding a job. Did you ever think this would be the norm; a time when
things were so backwards and upside down? I sure didn’t. I never envisioned a time when Christianity,
in these great Untied States of America, would be demonized and ostracized as it is.
But I do know why. If you look at all the immoral, sexually confused, perverse lifestyles and beliefs that
are being pushed (and I use that word advisedly) on people today, you will see that the majority of the
push back is coming from those who believe the Bible.
The Bible has, throughout history, been the driving force for moral decency. It has been the foundation
for true civilization. It has been the dam that holds back the dark side of human nature. It has pointed
to what is right and pure. Get it out of the way…remove its teachings from collective teachings of right
and wrong…and a person can do pretty much as they want. Satan has a field day when that happens.
The Bible is to be our guidebook for how we live. But it is a book that calls for restraint. And to the
depraved, carnal mind restraint is an undesirable teaching. But do not be afraid to be public (and
adamant) about your beliefs and never be shamed to assert that the Bible is the reason for your beliefs!
Say good things about your Savior and about His church here in Bluff Park.
