Act of God

Before televised college football games some guys tell the viewers who they think will win the game.
Four or five of them will take some time to explain their decision. These “experts” make a lot of money
doing what they do, yet sometimes they are wrong. In fact, I’ve seen a game where their choice was
unanimous…. but they were all wrong. It’s difficult to predict a football game, isn’t it? A lot can happen
to influence the outcome.
The same goes with saying that something is an “act of God”. Rep. Mike Johnson, the newly elected
House Speaker, said he believed that God raised him up to be in that position. Maybe He did. Rep.
Johnson, from what I have read, is a deeply devout Christian. His views on the hot topics of our day
align with Biblical principal and scripture. I admire him for his public stance on his relationship with God
and the authority of the Bible.
But I hesitate to call something an act of God before the act is put into motion…I want to see results. I
sincerely hope that God did place him in that position of authority and that the Lord works through him
to help our nation regain some of the moral integrity we once had. I’ll admit, it does look good and it
does, on the surface, appear that God could well be working through His servant. But this is politics not
a church. Washington politics is a swamp of vile creatures for the most part. I believe that and do not
trust them for one second.
I say that to make this point: if God did raise Rep. Mike Johnson up to his current position, good things
will happen. But we need to see that God is raising us…Christians…up, also. We need to cover him in
prayer, make our votes count, and not back down in this culture of godlessness. He is already being
attacked for his Christian stance on things. I pray that over the next few months we can agree that God,
indeed, raised him up.
Say good things about your Savior and His church on this mountain.
